
Ismail Alexandrani, born in 1983, is a Freelance Journalist, Media Producer and Proof-editor works for several media institutions, networks and agencies. Researcher in political sociology and youth activism has worked for the Unit of Futuristic Studies (Bibliotheca Alexandrina) and the Project on Studying Social Movements (American University in Cairo), with a special concern on conceptualizing fluid post-Islamism, post-ideological activism, mercurial activism, social non-movements and developing its passive networks figures, in addition to a background of Islamic Studies. Also field-works on integrating marginalized sectors in Egypt, both geographically and developmentally. Alexandrani studies and trains on utilizing social, digital and grassroots media as being a blogger, online and on-site activist.
As a writer and civil society activist, Ismail advocates the culture of human rights through informal education programs, leads and co-leads many solidarity campaigns especially against sectarian abuses. He is also a Trainer, Trainer of Trainers and Key Person for many networking initiatives, capacity building projects and training programs targeting political, human rights and developmental groups of activists and NGOs around Egypt. Has been involved in many inter- and intra-cultural programs, won several eminent awards due to his writings (i.e.) Global Winner of the Essay on Democracy Contest 2009 (World Youth Movement for Democracy). Lately, he has been awarded by Regan-Fascell Fellowship Program 2011/2012 (International Forum for Democratic Studies, Washington, DC), where he is going to study social media in a comparative context.
Politically, he is a Political Committee member at the Supporting Campaign for Abdelmoniem Abolfotouh as a Presidential Candidate after resigning from the Public Campaign for Supporting El-Baradie and Demands for Change as a member of the Executive Board, and Earlier Coordinator of Alexandria.
